Event Details
The name Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne will be familiar to those who have seen Granny’s Attic that fine band who were nominated for the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award in 2014. In Granny’s Attic Cohen sings and plays concertina and melodeon but he also has a flourishing solo career. He won the Bromyard Folk Festival’s Future of Young Folk Award for singing in 2014 and was nominated for the Horizon Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2018. For one so young (he is in his early twenties) Cohen is an astonishingly accomplished performer with a maturity way beyond his years. His solo repertoire consists mainly of traditional songs with accompaniment from anglo-concertina and melodeon. Alongside this Cohen also performs traditional tunes and the occasional un-accompanied song. His style, approach and repertoire is rooted in the English tradition however material and influences from Scottish, Irish American and European traditions are also present in his performance. An average solo performance includes songs, sea songs and shanties, with a fair amount of material linked to his native West Midlands.
