Event Details
Tom Lietzau presents a series of atmospheric paintings emerging from his fascination with Bristol’s beautiful setting and its rich history.

"Restless City" comprises images of central Bristol as well as escapes into the city’s green spaces, and further away - to the seaside. Among the works on show will be the “Burning Sky over Park Street” which became known as ‘prophetic’, as the artist had finished it days before a fire broke out in a Bristol University building near Park Street on 6th January 2018.

Other works include Avon Gorge, Broad Quay, and Avon New Cut, set in the early 1900s, as well as views of contemporary Bristol.

Tom said about his paintings, "A ’Place’ can inspire me to inquire about what it was like in the past, who lived here and how they lived. The ’Place’ is a space between myself, someone who lived here before, and someone who will come after me. In this series, I want to capture the essence of the place which is beyond time, that can be described as ’Genius Loci’ - the Spirit of Place."

Alongside original paintings, there will be limited edition prints and cards available to purchase. The artist will be present at the exhibition.
