Event Details
Bristol Phoenix Choir invites you to a musical birthday celebration. If you were anyone in the 18th century, what better way of marking your wife’s birthday than getting a famous composer to write a piece for the occasion. We present Handel’s Birthday Ode for Queen Anne of 1712, widely celebrated for the beautiful opening aria "Eternal Source of Light Divine" but with a great variety of moods over its 9 movements. Our main work is Haydn’s "Creation" Mass, written for the birthday of Princess Marie Esterházy. The programme is completed with Mozart’s Solemn Vespers, which includes the celebrated soprano solo "Laudate Dominum" (not written for anyone’s birthday but so beautiful it should have been!)
